Disabled Bathing on DIY SOS: The Big Build

On September 4th the BBC aired DIY SOS: The Big Build on Channel 1 which saw a family dealing with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (a severe form of the condition) make serious adaptations to their home. The family needed the support of assistive equipment to deal with their son Christopher’s condition such as a through floor lift, ceiling hoist and height adjustable bath to enable more mobility, easy care and accessible hygiene.

Proudly, one of our height adjustable Rio baths (supplied by Astor Bannerman) was installed in the family’s home in Hereford which has enabled the family to safely bathe Christopher. The bath’s “up and down” mechanism operates via hand control and is designed to provide a safe working height for the carer as well as a comfortable bathing position for the user, The Rio is ideal for use with ceiling hoists or floor hoists as it has a large open area underneath the bath.

With the option of a neat-fold stretcher for reduced transfers and hydrotherapy options for muscular relaxation; the Rio bath as featured on BBC1 has proven to enhance a bathroom both aesthetically and practically.
