Equine Aesthetics; OpeTrack Art Unicorn Design for Dorset Family

Posted on March 19, 2018

We understand that having ‘medical equipment’ in your home can sometimes feel clinical or obtrusive, despite its necessity. Especially for children, young people and older users with dementia, it’s important to keep your home feeling like a home and to maintain a positive environment, for families and carers too, that’s why we created the OpeTrack Art Unicorn Design for Dorset Family.

Our considered solution is colour. Not only does colour play an important role in the overall aesthetic of a space, it has many encouraging psychological impacts – on an individual’s mood, emotional well-being, productivity, learning and behaviour.

Thinking Outside the Box; Modular Changing Places Solutions

Posted on March 5, 2018

Many reservations for installing Changing Places facilities surround limitations in space, particularly in historical and completed buildings. Maintaining focus on purely internal adaptations can really limit what is possible and even halt such a project all together.

Thinking Outside the Box

But when we think a little outside the box, the solution becomes obvious – taking Changing Places literally outside! Installing Changing Places in pre-fabricated modular units can be, and has been, a fantastic means including Changing Places toilets in places where there isn’t a suitable space to install one inside of a building. It also provides the benefits of minimising any disruption to the existing buildings, as the installation of equipment is completed off-site; our modular facilities are delivered and lifted into position fully finished.

OpeMed Brand New ‘Design and Approach to Installing Changing Places’ Guide

Posted on February 21, 2018

The updated BS8300:2018 is now in place.  The British Standard takes the form of guidance and recommendations, and this particular iteration refers directly to Changing Places toilets and what is required to create a fully compliant facility.

Of course, nobody wants to be caught out where the standard has introduced new changes, but reading through can be a time-consuming process. As Co-Sponsors of the Changing Places campaign, we amalgamated the new BS8300 recommendations with the Changing Places Guide and our knowledge as suppliers and installers to create a new ‘Design and Approach to Installing Changing Places’ Guide.

Brand New OT200 Video

The OT200 and Flat Spaces: Earlier this year we re-visited our installation at Flat Spaces, a fantastically accessible Holiday Home in Ropley, Hampshire. A highly sought after inclusive holiday location, our first video showcases the OT200 Compact Ceiling Hoist demonstrated in-use by guests Lisa Edmunds and her son, Cameron.

The video not only provides evidence of aesthetics, with neat flushed tracking and cut-out door headers to allow the hoist to pass seamlessly between rooms, but also highlights the ease of use as we follow Lisa quickly and simply hoist her son and trace their faultless and unhindered movement through the property.

What is your colour?

Posted on October 11, 2017

What is your colour? For many years’ artists, scientists and researchers have been interested in the psychology of colour. They found that colour can have a profound effect on the human mind and emotions; evoking memory, affecting mood and influencing behaviour.

  • Cool colours create a sense of calm
  • Yellow is a subtly optimistic, happy colour.
  • White has long been a symbol of purity and cleanliness.
  • Light reflecting colours create an illusion of space.
  • Reds, oranges and browns make a space feel warm and welcoming.

SEN Equipment Taken Seriously

Posted on May 17, 2017

SEN Bathroom and Classroom Equipment

Almost a fifth of children in Britain are identified as having special educational needs (SEN). It is estimated that around 7 per cent of children are disabled and a significant number of children have both SEN and a disability. Most children with SEN and disabilities are educated in mainstream schools. Around one per cent of the total school population is educated in special schools.

Part of OpeMed’s SEN Patient Handling Equipment offering is our ability to listen and adapt to what our SEN customers really need. We have completed multiple SEN projects across the country, working closely with the architect, main contractor and school. Requiring both adaptations of existing facilities (classrooms, assisted bathrooms and sensory rooms etc.) and the creation of Hoisting and Changing solutions for new build additions.
