Asda Cwmbran Achieves First Changing Places in Wales for the Supermarket Giant

Working with Adsa in building the first Changing Places in any of their Welsh stores has been a satisfying journey.

Asda Cwmbran, following a £2m refurbishment, has had its standard disabled toilet swapped for a brand new Changing Places facility. This includes an OT200 Ceiling Hoist, a Height Adjustable Changing Table, Height Adjustable Washbasin and a specialist Wash/Dry toilet.

The team at Asda worked with our Product Specialists to understand the needs of disabled users and create the most functional facility. Offering our extensive experience with installing Changing Places to ensure the process of design and installation is as smooth and straightforward as possible.

The facility is especially welcome considering, as stated by Store Manager Matt Dodd in an article on the Asda website, that ‘there are no other facilities like this in a 15-mile radius’; not only does it make essential everyday tasks like food shopping easier and safer for disabled people and their families or carers, it also removes health risks where the alternative would be to changing on the floor.

Matt understands the challenges families and carers have gaining access to the right facilities while out shopping, as his own son has complex needs. : “As a parent and a retailer, I understand the benefits of accessible facilities from both sides, and this is something that is very close to my heart. My son, Noah, is three and half, has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is deaf and blind so he requires 24 hour care. Facilities like Changing Places make a massive difference to parents and carers when they are out shopping but they are very few and far between.”

Regarding the response of users of the new facility, he had this to say- “I am so pleased our Changing Places room is now open and we are already receiving encouraging feedback from customers.”

Rikki Teml, Cwmbran Shopping Centre Manager- where the Asda is located, said: “Asda’s new facilities will give disabled visitors to Cwmbran Shopping much more freedom and flexibility, allowing them and their carers to shop without having to stress about issues such as accessibility and hygiene.”

We are delighted to have been involved in the first of many Asda projects and are very excited to announce the opening of our latest Changing Places toilet for Asda in Barnstable (pictured below), soon to be registered.
